Don't Just Stand There, Do Something! A Review by Sarah Mankowski - Editor of Wordthunder |

Readers familiar with the writings of William Alan Rieser know that beyond being a superb storyteller, the author has a fine knack for the absurd. So it was with great enthusiasm that I approached his latest book, a collection of stories for young readers. I wasn't disappointed. Don't Just Stand There, Do Something! is an ingenious mix of childhood memories, exaggerations and imaginative stories. And I'm not too sure where one ends and the other begins. The book is divided into sections that give a clue to the diversity of stories within: Baseball, Plants and Animals, Odds and Ends, Scary Things, Outer Space. Meet such memorable characters as a remarkable Siamese cat named Sam. Take journeys into space to discover space clams, back in time to little league, and a road trip across the South smothered by kudzu. Full of wit and imagination, I highly recommend Don't Just Stand There, Do Something to the young of heart of all ages. |
