Green's Shawl

white limbs of mint and pine
frozen in quicksilver sap and dew
               petrified sugar-coated cones and crowns
                      minute tinges of drowsing verdure
                        sunken anchors of fleshy tubers
immovable buoys in a sea of crystal monuments
medals of purity, regally tall and refined
with many an outstretched umbered arm
telling the wind it is free to press on
passing the mansions of tiny guests
                                          housing the gathered autumn fruits
                                             garnered sustenance, fuel within fuel
sheltering all from chill frosts and blue
warm inner cores of fine textured cork
                                     eternal wharves and seasonal wombs
revealing life as the ice does recess
receding in ribbons of gentling rills
                          carrying the needed garden mead
to the rooted guardians and earthy gods
                       historic, legendary and ageless
                traditions of beauty's acreage
              forever foresting and fair
            unblankets the evergreenery
